Relationships can be beautiful, messy, and deeply challenging—especially when we find ourselves at odds with the person or persons we love over issues that matter so much to us. I have been in this position myself, and I know how hard it is to make difficult decisions about how to proceed, especially when there is much history and sometimes even kids to consider, like there were for me when I was moving through that time.
If you’re feeling hurt, frustrated, or disconnected because your partner, family members, work environment, or close friend doesn’t share your views on political issues – immigration, genocide, human rights, etc. – issues that impact you, your community, and the people you love, you are not alone. This space is here for you. In this session, we’ll come together to hold space for these hard feelings, share our experiences, and explore ways to navigate these conflicts while honoring ourselves and our relationships.
We’ll talk about what it feels like when a partner, or someone close to us, seems dismissive or uninterested in the things that deeply affect us, and we’ll also take a gentle and honest look at why these differences exist in the first place. Through compassionate conversation, acknowledgment of potential cultural differences, and our shared wisdom from each of our journeys, we’ll explore ways to engage in these tough discussions without losing ourselves in the process, or perhaps without losing each other when we can help it. Let me be clear that this will not be about forcing anyone to change, or expecting ourselves to be able to change anyone. Instead, this will be about gaining clarity about where we stand, how we want to show up in our relationships and how we want to be shown up for, and what boundaries or shifts might be needed to feel more aligned. I always thought that if I could help one other person move through this kind of hardship one day feeling supported and seen, then my own hardship will have been worth it.
At the heart of this gathering is a commitment to love—love for ourselves, love for our values, and love for the people we choose to share our lives with, even when that love requires us to make big (and sometimes scary) shifts. Whether you’re here to find clarity, learn better communication strategies, or just be in community with others who understand what you’re going through, you are welcome. No matter where you are in your journey, you DO NOT have to navigate this alone. Join others like you to support one another, reflect in honesty, and find a path forward that feels right for each person.
