Our children deserve an education that empowers them to think critically, ask bold questions, and challenge injustice. Yet, too often, they are given a sanitized, incomplete version of history—one that erases struggle and silences resistance. As parents, educators, and caregivers, we are responsible for ensuring that the next generation grows up equipped not just with knowledge, but with the consciousness and courage to dismantle oppressive systems. Our Seeds of Liberation Series is designed to guide you through this process, providing the tools, language, and frameworks needed to have honest, age-appropriate conversations that inspire critical thinking and action.

Throughout this five-session series, we will reflect on our own learning journeys, examining the lessons we were (and weren’t) taught, and how they shape the way we view the world. We will explore strategies for honoring children's curiosity while introducing difficult realities, learning how to discuss complex issues—white supremacy, sexism, wealth inequality, the legacy of colonization, etc.—in ways that are developmentally appropriate and rooted in truth.

Most importantly, we will hold space for the emotional impact these conversations can have on both children and adults, offering strategies to help young ones process fear and confusion while fostering a sense of safety and belonging. Together, we’ll explore how ancestral power, community resilience, and the stories of those who have fought for liberation before us can serve as guiding lights for children navigating an unjust world.

This journey is not just about what we teach children—it’s about how we empower them to think, challenge, and lead. In our final session, we will integrate our learning and discuss ways to continue this work within our respective communities. Raising a generation of conscious, justice-oriented young people is not easy, but it is necessary if we are to reshape our world towards liberation for all. And together we will march towards that vision. This is more than a workshop; it’s a commitment to the future. Will you join us?

Our Seeds Of Liberation Curriculum is as follows:

Session 1: Setting Intentions and Building Connection

In this first session, we will reflect on our own experiences as lifelong learners. We will examine the lessons we learned growing up, the lessons we didn’t learn, and how these lessons shaped our worldview. We will also reflect on the role that we play in helping children in our lives to develop their own consciousness about the world around them.

Session 2: Think of the Children

As we begin to explore ways to educate our children about complex issues, it’s important that we hold space to honor the sovereignty of the children in our lives. How can we honor the sovereignty and innate curiosity of our children while making space for difficult realities? How can we be sensitive to the developmental readiness of our children? What is it that we ultimately want our children to learn, and why? In this session, we will discuss how to tread these waters.

Session 3: A Tree Without Roots

Marcus Garvey was known to say, “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” A key aspect of helping our children to become conscious humans is ensuring that they have a strong sense of identity. Children need to know where they come from, what is the story of their ancestors, and how this story ties into our current reality and our collective humanity. In this session, we will examine our personal and collective histories and reflect on how these shared histories have shaped the world we live in. We will also discuss how to help our children to learn their own histories in a way that is digestible to them.

Session 4: The Stories We Tell

This session is dedicated to exploring the various conversations we may want to dig into with our children. War, poverty/economic inequality, white supremacy, sexism, climate change, etc… These are all difficult topics, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to talking about them. In this session, we will take time to practice. We will share resources and templates that you can use to help you as you prepare to engage in dialogue with your children. We will roleplay having these conversations, offering concrete strategies to navigate these difficult topics in real time.

Session 5:  Integration & Application

This series will no doubt leave participants with lots to consider as we move forward on our journeys as parents and educators. Our final session is intended to hold space for any final thoughts we may have. How will we go forth and apply what we’ve learned? What questions do we still have? How can we find/build our community to keep the learning going? Session 5 is our coming home ceremony, but the growth continues.
