Too often, the education we give to children is one that leaves them with more questions than answers. Most children learn a very one-dimensional and sanitized view of the world – where the pilgrims and the Native Americans all got along, where the founding fathers never told a lie, where MLK Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech ended racism, etc. Children are taught to read, but they aren’t taught to question what they read, only to memorize enough information to pass the test.

In the classroom, many educators are too worried about going viral to even think about discussing subjects and histories that may be perceived as “controversial” or “political.” Issues that directly impact our kids and their quality of life, real and important issues like racism, sexism, mental illness, wealth inequality, government corruption, etc. – get pushed aside. And so our kids grow up in a world filled with confusion and problems without the vocabulary to describe the root causes behind those problems, and with no tools or templates to help solve them.

Our kids deserve better. They deserve a liberatory education that prepares and empowers them to not only understand the world, but to become agents of change in their world. We as adults have a responsibility to help them along the way. But where do we start?

I created this workshop, Teach Them Young, to teach parents, educators, and caregivers how to engage the children in their lives with the kind of critical education they need to understand the world around them. What questions should you ask? What kind of media resources can I use? How do I know when they’re ready to learn about [insert challenging topic here]? It can be a lot to consider, and we want to help you get started.

The value of the Workshop starts at $33. If you have the capacity to contribute $44 or $55, we would greatly appreciate it, as it allows us to provide more scholarships to our comunidad.

If you’re not in a position to purchase this Workshop, please remember that no one will be turned away for lack of funds. If cost is a barrier for you, please email us at info@latinxparenting.org

The recording of the session will be available to all registrants.
