As our children witness certain political changes, changes which will likely impact their lives and the lives of those they love, it has become additionally crucial to do our best as caregivers to equip ourselves and our children with the understanding of what is happening, what may be yet to come, and what we have at our disposal to offset harm
This will be a discussion on how to communicate with children about complex political issues, emphasizing empathy, understanding, and hope.
We will explore age-appropriate ways to help children process their feelings, including fear and confusion, recognize the potential impacts on their communities, and foster a sense of safety and belonging. We will also name examples of how our collective resilience can show up to cope with these shifts. We’re talking about ancestral power, community power, and role models of people who pushed us forward toward liberation. Together, we’ll hold space for allll of our emotions in this time and share practical strategies for instilling values of care and liberation in our young ones, empowering them to navigate uncertainty with as much groundedness and trust in themselves as possible.
